Salary Information 
Assistant I: $54,432.72-$71,420.44
Assistant II: $63,194.70- $82,916.93
Under general supervision , reviews, processes and presents routine to moderately complex development plans and proposals; conducts a variety of environmental and land use planning research; provides information and assistance on planning-related matters to the public and City staff; assists in the development and implementation of assigned programs or projects; and performs related work as assigned.

The Essential Duties

  • Provides information and assistance to the public on routine-to-difficult planning-related matters regarding zoning, land use, municipal codes, and current private and public projects; researches and reviews build­ing and devel­op­ment projects for plan completeness and ordinance compliance; coordinates project review with other City departments or outside entities.
  • Prepares and presents staff reports to the Planning Commission, Design Review Board and the City Council; analyzes and evaluates significant amounts of data and information; develops recommendations and reso­lutions of deter­mination; provides staff support to the Planning Commis­sion/Design Review Board including agenda packet preparation and facilitating meeting minutes and logistics.
  • Performs field investigations to ensure projects conform to zoning codes, design regulations and/or approved plans; performs design conformance plan checks; assists permit applicants to satisfy conditions of approval.  With supervision, reviews and processes determinations subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and Local Coastal Program (LCP).
  • Performs various administrative functions for the department, including accepting applications and permits for processing, composing correspondence, maintaining project files, and preparation of public noticing, legal advertisements, and meeting minutes.
