The Assistant Planner will perform a range of professional planning tasks to include assisting the public with planning and zoning information; administering codes, ordinances and development review procedures; reviewing proposals for discretionary land use permits; performing building plan checks; performing environmental impact analyses; performing land use and regulatory research; preparing graphic and presentation materials and illustration boards; preparing staff reports; presenting projects and recommendations at public hearings before various decision-making bodies; organizing and maintaining the library, files and plan room.

Candidates must hold the equivalent of Bachelor’s degree Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in urban or regional planning, urban design, urban geography, architecture, landscape architecture or a related field considered useful in City planning. Candidates must be able to write clear, concise, comprehensive and effective reports and make effective oral presentations. Candidates must also be able to work on multiple projects or issues simultaneously and work independently or in a team environment as needed. Candidates must also be proficient in all Microsoft computer applications.
