The City Planner plans, directs and reviews studies of the General Plan relative to the management of natural resources, present and recommended utilization of land, the proposed development of street, highway and transportation systems, public services and facilities, public buildings, housing conditions and needs, and procedures to be followed; develops and administers the Planning Division budget; provides high level of expertise in CEQA implementation; manages, selects, assigns and evaluates the work of subordinate supervisory, professional and support staff; directs,participates in and performs research of City land use and environmental studies; investigates and makes recommendations on matters relating to City planning and zoning; makes presentations at Planning Commission meetings, City Council meetings and public hearings; represents the City before public agencies, business and civic groups, and other organizations in the presentation and discussion of City planning issues, proposals and policies; and coordinates interdepartmental review and recommends approval or disapproval of all development projects throughout the City; performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Six years of public sector land use planning experience, including at least two years of supervising professional level planning staff.

A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Planning or a closely related field.
A Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Planning or a closely related field and AICP certification are highly desirable.
