The City of Oceanside is accepting applications for Development Services Technician. There is currently one vacancy. The Development Services Technician is the primary point of contact at the Development Services Department’s public counter. This position provides support at the permit counter; reviews development proposals for conformance with city zoning; communicates with and assists developers, property owners, and the public regarding laws, policies, regulations, standards and procedures with respect to the submission of plans, processing of applications; identifies problems and assesses alternatives for projects; assists the public in completing applications for permits and advises permit applicants of requirements and procedural steps; answers questions, provides information and computes permit and plan check fees; checks plans and maps for completeness; interprets and applies various ordinances; collects, compiles, tabulates and analyzes field data; reviews applications, plans, maps, drawings, specifications and reports to determine compliance with building codes, ordinances and regulations; prepares notices regarding violations; maintains a variety of logs, records, files, maps and documents; and performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of responsible experience involving public contact duties related to development processing, building, and/or engineering, processing building plan checks and permits, or equivalent responsibilities.

Education: Completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by advanced coursework or training in drafting, mathematics, engineering, construction, or a related field.

License or Certificate: Possession of a Permit Technician Certificate issued by the International Code Council is required. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license is required. Proof of required certification must be submitted by the application deadline.
