Jul. 17 – Visions for the future of San Diego’s 48-acre Sports Arena property
July 17 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am
This Friday! The Two Proposed Visions for the future of San Diego’s 48-acre Sports Arena property
Join us to hear about the City of San Diego’s efforts to transform the San Diego Sports Arena property into a vibrant, pedestrian and transit-oriented entertainment District. The City has selected plans from the two successful responders to their Request for Proposal (RFP) to take forward for public comment.
In order to learn more about these concepts and inform your comments and input for the project, Diego Velasco from CityThinkers will facilitate a webinar with the two successful responders to the City’s RFP for the Sports Arena Community Village, Brookfield Properties and Toll Brothers.
The Toll Brothers proposal features a 12-acre public park, a 12,000-seat modular soccer stadium and a 3,500-seat music venue. It also would include 1,400 housing units, 185,000 square feet of office buildings and 106,500 square feet of retail space. The proposal includes spending $125 million to renovate the 54-year-old sports arena.”
The Brookfield proposal includes 5 acres of public parks, 2,100 housing units and 130-170,000 square feet of retail space, 350-450,000 square feet for office space and hospitality. A number of design options for the Arena were submitted, including a scenario with a new arena, to demonstrate what might be possible on the site.
The proposals are available for virtual tours and public feedback through July 20 at https://www.sandiego.gov/real-estate-assets/sports-arena-virtual-open-house
1.0 CM credits will be available for APA AICP members.
