Programs Co-Chair – Board of the San Diego Section of the American Planning Association

The San Diego Section of the American Planning Association (SDAPA) is seeking a Programs Co-Chair to serve on the SDAPA Board. The candidate will work with the existing Programs Chair to organize lunch programs and other SDAPA events (responsible for organizing 3-4 educational programs/year). Applicants must be able to work with Board colleagues to develop program topics, appropriate and informative speakers, solidify event locations, and identify caterers, and partners for a successful event. Serving as a Programs Co-Chair requires attendance at monthly SDAPA Board meetings, experience organizing events, and the ability to utilize personal time (~ 8-12 hours per month, including Board meetings).

Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate core capabilities, professional experience, and education in the broad field of planning, and possibly in specific areas such as urban planning, environmental planning, transportation planning, public health, design for public space, etc.

In general, as a member of the Board, applicants must serve as a vehicle for increasing membership awareness and involvement, as well as create an arena for communication and the exchange of information in the planning field.

Membership Inclusion Director – Board of the San Diego Section of the American Planning Association

The San Diego Section of the American Planning Association (SDAPA) is seeking a Membership Inclusion Director to serve on the SDAPA Board. The candidate will work to recruit, support, and retain planners of diverse backgrounds and races within the profession and within the SDAPA Section membership. Applicants will incorporate diversity themes into at least one Section event per year and organize activities with high school students from disadvantaged areas to encourage the consideration of planning as a future career. The candidate will also represent the SDAPA Section at meetings scheduled by the Chapter Membership Inclusion Director. Serving as the Membership Inclusion Director requires attendance at monthly SDAPA Board meetings, experience organizing events, and the ability to utilize personal time (8-10 hours per month).
