UCSD Walking Tour
April 30, 2013 @ 3:15 pm - 5:00 pm
If you’re attending the April 30th SDAPA Awards Event on the UC San Diego Campus, why not join the walking tour prior to the event?
UC San Diego regularly receives wide recognition for its sustainability practices as well as its campus planning. This walking tour highlights the UC San Diego leadership in sustainable building design and construction as well as landscape and stormwater management.
The 1.5 hour tour begins with a brief overview of the planning and urban design parameters that have guided the development of this part of the UC San Diego campus. Participants will then be guided through the recently completed North Campus Student Housing project known as the “Village East.” This LEED Gold certified project is a great example of applying non-traditional thinking to creating an “urban village” on a university campus, while also creating eco-friendly and energy-efficient residential and support buildings.
Be prepared! This might be one of the best views of San Diego with the Pacific Ocean to the west and the mountains to the east.
The tour will conclude with a discussion of the “Wedge Open” space project, a 4-acre area that was designed with a series of meandering walkways through native coastal plantings that replicate the bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean to the west, providing examples of sustainable landscape and stormwater management features.
1.5 CM credits pending. Due to expected tour demand, the walking tour will be open to SDAPA Awards Event attendees only. Utilize the SDAPA Awards registration form to register for the Awards and the Walking Tour.
