Young Planners Mentorship Program (Applications Due 1/20/20)
The Young Planners Group is proud to announce the 9th Annual Mentorship Program!
The YPG Mentorship Program is a great opportunity for students and young planners to get connected with experienced planners in the industry and for mentors to give back to their profession. We encourage both seasoned professionals and emerging planners to participate!

Mentorship Program Kick-Off Event: Wednesday, January 22, 2020
About the Program
The goal of the YPG Mentorship Program is to successfully match emerging planners and students (mentees) with experienced planning professionals (senior mentors and mid-level mentors) for guidance and support, while offering monitors an opportunity to strengthen ties with the future leaders of the planning community and APA.
Mentees and mentors are assigned to mentorship groups, each generally made up of one Senior-level planner, one mid-level planner, and one to two mentees. All participants are encouraged to attend the three key events, as well as meet as mentorship groups a minimum of two times outside of these events. The first key event is the Meet & Greet on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. This event will resemble a speed networking event where participants will get a chance to meet one-another and identify preferences for mentorship groups. This first key event is mandatory , and mentorship groups will be assigned following the event.
Two additional key events will include the Mid-Cycle Social (Tuesday, March 26th) and the Milestone Celebration (Tuesday, June 23rd). Additional details for all key events will be provided to participants as these dates approach.
Mentorship Program Roles & Applications
Each mentorship group will consist of senior level mentors, mid-level mentors, and mentees. Descriptions of each role is provided below.
Senior Level Mentors are practicing planners with 7+ years of professional planning (or related) experience. Senior level mentors have a range of experience and provide technical assistance, guidance, support, and feedback. Responsibilities include coordinating meetings and activities with mentees and assisting mentees in the development of professional growth plans. Mid-Level Mentors are practicing planners with between 2 and 7 years of professional planning (or related) experience. Mid-level mentors provide guidance and support to mentees in navigating early years of the profession, and may also be seeking guidance from a senior level mentor. Responsibilities include meeting with mentees to provide early career guidance and coordinating with the senior level mentor to plan meetings and activities with the mentorship team. Mentees are students and entry level planners with less than 2 years of professional experience. Mentees are in the early stages of their career or interested in learning more about planning and what career paths they may take. If you are interested in being a mentee, apply here!
