JUNIOR LAND USE/ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNER
Salary: $46,904.00 – $57,595.20 Annually
PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
Through operational excellence and attention to customer service, Planning & Development Services (PDS) strives to balance community, economic and environmental interests to ensure the highest quality of life for the public of San Diego County.
PDS is responsible for long range land use planning, including the County’s General Plan and Zoning Ordinance, which determine how our communities will grow. The department analyzes privately initiated land use projects to ensure compliance with land use regulations and advises the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission on the projects. Department programs, such as building plan review, building inspection and code compliance help maintain public health and safety.
This is the entry level professional class in the Land Use/Environmental Planner class series responsible for performing professional environmental and land use planning studies/projects, research, and data analysis to develop goals and policy recommendations for adoption by decision-making bodies.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, with at least 30 semester units in the following fields of study: life science, physical science, city and regional planning, urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, geography, archaeology, biology, wildlife and/or botany; geology, conservation of environmental quality, natural resources, physical geography, ecology, zoology, or engineering with an emphasis in acoustics or environmental management, public administration or a closely-related field.
The evaluation process for Junior Land Use/Environmental Planner will consist of an application screening for minimum qualifications, a pass/fail written examination, and a supplemental application rating weighted 100%.
The written examination is scheduled on the weekend of September 24, 2016. Applicants will receive an electronic mail invitation notification to self-schedule and the exact time and location of the written examination will be provided in the notice. This notice will be sent at least ten calendar days prior to the date of the exam.
