The Opportunity: The City is currently searching for a motivated and enthusiastic entry-level planning professional to join its Planning team. The ideal candidate will be a team player who demonstrates confidence and professionalism with a desire to learn. This position will be tasked with duties and responsibilities in Planning, Housing and Code Enforcement. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree with a major in planning, engineering, landscape architecture, geography, architecture, public administration or a related field.

The Position: Under immediate supervision, the Junior Planner performs a variety of less difficult planning work, researches and writes staff reports; designs, screens, and processes site development plans and processes building permits; checks plans for compliance with pertinent City ordinances and policy requirements; provides planning information to the public; performs a variety of technically-oriented tasks relating to zoning code interpretation, drafting, updating maps, building permit review, property identification, and owner research; performs other related work as assigned.

Class Characteristics: This is the trainee level class in the planning series, designed to develop the incumbent to perform more responsible municipal planning assignments.
