Land Use/Environmental Planners under the Noise Option will independently process projects/tasks characterized by having moderate public controversy, and of low complexity such as minor use permits, variances, administrative permits, boundary adjustments, tentative parcel maps, or policy and ordinance changes. In addition, incumbents provide technical expertise in the field of acoustics, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures for the minimization of adverse noise impact, as well as review projects to identify potential noise related issues and technical reports covering potential noise related issues completed by consultants (including the monitoring of noise levels and calculating anticipated noise levels).
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in Engineering with an emphasis in acoustics, AND one (1) year of professional level experience in the field of acoustics as it relates to land use/environmental planning. Experience must be at the level equivalent to a Junior Land Use/Environmental Planner within the County of San Diego; OR,
- A master’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, in Engineering with and emphasis in acoustics. No experience required; OR,
- One (1) year of experience as a Junior Land Use/Environmental Planner with the County of San Diego
NOTE: Professional level land use/environmental planning experience in a public or private agency may substitute for education on a year for year basis, for up to two (2) years of the education requirement. Degree must be from a U.S. accredited college or university, or certified equivalency for foreign studies must be provided.
