Landscape Planner I – To assist in the coordination of various landscape developments, landscape capital improvement and design work, and landscape preservation projects of a routine nature; may assist in overseeing contractor/consultant work for compliance; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This is the entry-level in the Landscape Planner series. This class is distinguished from the journey by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters allocated to the journey level. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or not directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning tasks.
Landscape Planner II – To coordinate and monitor various complex landscape architectural, park development, and land planning work; act as project manager of landscape architecture projects; coordinate and monitor contractor/consultant work for compliance; and to perform a variety of technical and professional tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This is the full journey level within the Landscape Planner series. This class is distinguished from the Landscape Planner I by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the entry level.
Please Note: The City of Chula Vista has a vacancy to be filled at either the Landscape Planner I or Landscape Planner II level, based on the evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications and other factors.
This recruitment aims to establish eligibility lists for: (1) Landscape Planner I and (2) Landscape Planner II. The eligibility lists established as a result of this recruitment will be for a duration of six (6) months, unless otherwise extended.
