The San Diego LAFCO is pleased to announce the opening of recruitment for a Local Governmental Analyst. LAFCO is looking for progressive, self-directed, creative individuals who possess outstanding analytical abilities, oral and written communication skills and excellent political judgment. The level of the position(s) will be filled depending on a candidate’s qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in regional or urban planning, public administration, political science, public policy, geography or a related field (Local Governmental Analyst I, II and III). A Master’s degree or other advanced degree in a related field is highly desirable.


Local Government Analyst III – Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in a state/regional planning agency, municipal or county planning department, city, special district or private planning/environmental consulting firm.

Local Government Analyst II – Three (3) years of experience with one of the type of employers referenced above.

Local Government Analyst I – One (1) year of applicable experience.

Preferred Qualifications

(a) Employment with LAFCO or working knowledge of State Laws and procedures governing LAFCO, State of California planning, zoning and environmental laws, (b) knowledge and experience with public facilities and services provided by local government, (c) understanding of public finance, (d) experience with latest computer software programs used for narrative report preparation, staff presentation and social media, (e) familiarity with GIS and website applications, (f) Master’s Degree or other advanced degree in related field.

Annual Salary Range:
Local Governmental Analyst I: $47,881-$58,177
Local Governmental Analyst II: $56,700-$68,972
Local Governmental Analyst III: $73,840-$95,929
