Meet your Board Member: Angel Hernandez, SDAPA Imperial County Representative

Hello, I’m Angel Hernandez and I serve as the APA San Diego Section’s Imperial County Representative. I’ve been a planner for four years and currently work in my hometown at the City of El Centro Community Development Department. I attended the San Diego State University-Imperial Valley Campus in Calexico and attended the San Diego campus my last two years, so I’ve always considered San Diego sort of a second hometown. At SDSU, I majored in Public Administration with an emphasis in City Planning and minored in Urban Geography. As a student and now as a professional, I enjoy planning because it incorporates a range of subjects. On any one project, you can be exposed to architecture, engineering, geography, and public health. As the section’s Imperial County Representative, I hope to increase participation in the APA by local planners and expose members in San Diego to more of the Imperial Valley! On January 21, 2017, our section hosted a tour of the Salton Sea, where we got to explore environmental and development issues related to the Salton Sea and introduce planners from San Diego and Imperial County. We finished the tour with a PNO (Planner’s Night Out) at “Inferno” in Downtown Brawley – a fun place to socialize. Below are some pictures from the PNO and the tour, including pictures of my fellow Imperial Valley planners, my fellow SDAPA Board members that attended, our tour guide at the Salton Sea, and my colleague Marcus Bush, Inclusionary Director of the SDAPA. We hope you can join us for future joint events!
