The Planner will perform a range of professional planning tasks to include assisting the public with planning and zoning information; administering codes, ordinances and development review procedures; reviewing proposals for discretionary land use permits; performing building plan checks; performing environmental impact analyses; performing land use and regulatory research; and presenting projects and recommendations at public hearings before various decision-making bodies.

Candidates must hold the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban or regional planning, urban design, urban geography, architecture, landscape architecture or a related field considered useful in City planning. Qualified candidates will possess at least two (2) years of full or part-time-equivalent experience in professional planning or urban design for an assistant-level position and four (4) years for an associate-level position. A master’s degree in urban or regional planning can substitute for one (1) year of experience.

Civic San Diego is the nonprofit public benefit corporation wholly owned by the City of San Diego with the mission of managing public improvement and public-private partnership projects. In addition, Civic San Diego has been granted land use authority to perform planning and permitting functions, administer the downtown San Diego parking district and implement its improvement projects, design and manage the construction of parks and fire stations and develop and execute economic development strategies.
