Job Title: Planning Intern (Unpaid)
Job Location: Poway
The Planning Intern in the Development Services Department is a non-paid, non-benefited position that will provide individuals with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the day-to-day operations of the Planning Division with the City of Poway. The Planning Intern will assist with special projects related to, but not limited to, conducting research on land use regulations, preparing for public meetings and working collaboratively with multiple divisions within the Development Services Department.
The most essential qualifications for this internship are a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new procedures and information in order to provide better service to customers. Basic computer skills are essential, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge and experience with GIS is preferred. This position is best suited for undergraduate or graduate-level college students or recent graduates with backgrounds or interests in City, Urban or Regional Planning; Land Use Management; Architecture; Public Administration; Political Science; Environmental Science; Geography or related fields.
Position requires 10 – 40 hours per week for 4 – 6 months. Hours must be scheduled and agreed upon with the supervisor. Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for this internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.
