San Diego – California
In June 2014, the SANDAG Board of Directors asked staff to review options for developing and constructing an urban mixed-use facility in downtown San Diego. The mixed-use development will provide office space for SANDAG, estimated at between 120,000 and 140,000 square feet, and an off-street layover facility (parking lot) to be used by the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) to efficiently operate their local and Rapid transit services.
SANDAG has identified five potential sites for the mixed-use development, and staff is currently conducting a scenario analysis to recommend a final site location. Upon Board of Director’s approval, the construction of the new office building and bus layover facility would move forward with an expected completion of the project by October 2019.
The Project Manager will coordinate a broad range of activities associated with the planning, construction, and occupation of an urban mixed-use building with professional office space, a layover facility for MTS local buses and Rapid vehicles, and potentially retail space. This position will serve as the primary SANDAG liaison/representative with the agency’s selected real estate developer and other key partners and stakeholders in all phases of the project including site selection, financing, environmental review, architectural design, permitting, and construction, and will provide technical guidance and recommendations for successful project delivery.
This is a Limited-Term employment opportunity. The position is expected to be funded through the completion of the project. Limited-Term employees are considered to be “at-will” and receive many of the benefits of Regular employees.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree with major course work in construction management, public/business administration, planning, engineering, architecture, real estate, law, finance, or a related field, and seven years of professional project management experience managing complex capital projects. An advanced degree and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate is desirable.
SANDAG rewards the efforts of its employees with a comprehensive compensation package. Competitive salaries are supplemented with a flexible offering of health, financial security, and time-off benefits to meet the work and life needs of employees and their families.
