Many professionals go the extra mile to serve their professional community. Alex Hempton has gone above and beyond the call of duty and shown extraordinary dedication to serving the San Diego section of the American Planning Association (APA). Alex’s service on the SDAPA Board has spanned over seven years, beginning when he served as Membership Chair in 2010 and ending with his current role as Treasurer.

Alex has devoted extraordinary time and commitment to fortifying the administration and operations of the SDAPA Board, including setting up event registration systems and constant contact e-mail blasts to ensure smooth processes and consistent communications. In addition, Alex has shown his commitment and reliability as a Board member by stepping up to volunteer and complete tasks when others are unable. His efforts have helped raise the prominence of the Board by establishing new relationships with other organizations, such as the San Diego Architectural Foundation, and generating new ideas to make activities and events more relevant.

Alex has consistently served as an inspiring role model for fellow APA members throughout the San Diego region. And, while every Board member has contributed to the success of SDAPA, Alex’s efforts redefined the organization. As such, we recognize Alex as one of the most genuine, progressive, reliable, and forward-looking APA members and congratulate him on his exemplary service and achievement as “SDAPA Board Member of the Decade!”

Alex is finishing his term as our Treasurer. He received a “Board Member of the Decade” Proclamation at the APA/AEP Holiday Party on December 7, 2017. We thank him for his service and wish him the best!
