San Diego – California
An essential component of the success of SANDAG as a premier multi-modal planning and project implementation agency lies with the quality and capacity of our Economic, Transportation, and Land Use Modeling program. A team of eighteen highly skilled professionals support a variety of studies including long-range coordinated economic, land use, and transportation plans, corridor studies, major transit investment studies, infrastructure development, and air quality plans.

As regional issues become more complex, the demands and expectations of our modeling program have also increased. To meet these challenges, SANDAG has committed the resources necessary to develop a more robust, agile, and integrated modeling infrastructure. The Economic and Land Use Modeling group ensures that the land use, demographic, and economic models are up-to-date and reflect the current and future needs of the region. The team designs, builds, and maintains a small-area, land-use simulation model based on the Production, Exchange, and Consumption Allocations System (PECAS) framework and maintains the current suite of tools, including the regional Demographic and Economic Forecast Model (DEFM); these models are integrated with the SANDAG Activity-Based Model (ABM). The development and use of these models will move the agency into the forefront of state-of-the-art model development and help to support policy development and decision making

The Regional Data Analyst will provide support to a team of researchers and analysts responsible for developing socioeconomic and travel forecasting models. This position will consult with and provide services to staff to support data management needs, including the development of data management plans, and coordinate the preservation, publication, and delivery of various types of information needed to support agency programs and projects.

The minimum education, training, and experience qualifications include a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in computer science, information systems, software engineering, statistics, mathematics, or a related field and one to three years of progressive career development in data analysis and management. An advanced degree is desirable.
